Imperfectly Raw Day 12. 8/30/21

 Imperfectly Raw Day 12  8/30/21

No breakfast today, just coffee.

We had made plans to spend the day with our neighbors, Kim and Jerry.  The original plan was to go out on a boat, but the weather was rainy so we decided to enjoy the view from their upper deck.  I made grilled hamburgers and veggie burgers, and a salad exactly like the one I made for dinner last night with arugula, spinach, onion, pecans, dried cranberries, and baked sweet potatoes.

Travis

Lunch:  Veggie Burger, whole grain chips, and salad.  I had an Organic Social Hibiscus Cucumber Sparkling Sake Wine to drink.

Snack:  Kim had a snack tray of nuts and fruit and a cinnamon cake.  Water to drink.

Dinner:  Leftovers from lunch and snack.

We enjoyed visiting with Kim and Jerry and talking about everything under the sun.  I especially enjoyed the conversation about DNA.

Before bed I felt hungry and thirsty so I had a nectarine and water.

Imperfectly Raw Day 11 8/29/21

 Imperfectly Raw Day 11 8/29/21

Jerra and me

Breakfast:  Coffee, Lemon Ginger Blast, and Sourdough Bread Toast with butter and jelly.

Lunch was at The Fold, a restaurant located in an old gas station in Little Rock.  It was recommended by my SIL, Ken.  For appetizers, my friend, Jerra, and I had the Quesa, Roja, and Guacamole.  I didn’t order the Quesa, but we kept it and paid for it.  I ordered the 3 Taco Plate which was more than I could eat after the appetizers.  I ordered the three vegetarian choices:  Sweet Potato Kale, Mrs. Green, and Hearts of Palm.  Iced tea to drink. (I failed to get a photo of the tacos.)

Jerra and I were so excited to attend the Opera in the Rock performance of Scalia/Ginsburg: an opera by Derrick Wang at the Clinton Presidential Library.  Someone said the only possible better venue for this production would have to be The Supreme Court of the United States!  We loved it, and we loved catching up with each other.

I loved getting a call from my grandson, Caleb, today and getting a chance to catch up with him while I was driving home from Little Rock.  He’s always fun to visit with.  He earned the grandchild of the day award!

For dinner I made a salad with arugula/spinach mix, red onion, pecans, dried cranberries, croutons made with toasted sourdough bread, and diced baked sweet potatoes.  The dressing recipe for this salad:

⅓ cup olive oil

2-½ tbsp balsamic vinegar

1-½ tbsp maple syrup

My drink was Kevita Pineapple Peach Kombucha.

Janis

Imperfectly Raw Day 10 8/28/21

 Day 10 8/28/21

Breakfast:  I had a Lemon Ginger Blast this morning - the regular recipe of parsley, cilantro, lemon, ginger jalapeno, cucumber, celery, and liquid turmeric.  And, of course, coffee with coconut sugar.

Lunch:  I took my lunch to work with me at JoAnna A Boutique.  Smoothie of the day was made with 2 bananas, spinach leaves, 2 kiwi, 2 dates, frozen blueberries, frozen strawberries and bananas, Ionbiome supplement, marine collagen, coconut water, and filtered water.  This is enough for two large smoothies.

The boutique is located at 800 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, AR.  We are open every day now, and either Molly, or Ashlyn and Shane, or me will be there.

Any suggestions on how to counteract muscle loss as you age?

Snack today was a big honeycrisp apple and 2 of my raw goodie balls.

After work, I walked across the street to the candy store to visit with my granddaughter-in-law, Emily.  We had a good visit while I watched her making candy.  Visit the Candy Bar at 801 Central Avenue, Suite 33 in Hot Springs, AR for some small batch homemade candy and other sweet treat

Today was Phoebe’s 13th birthday so I called her on my way home to wish her a happy birthday.  I hope we will get to see her soon for a birthday meal together.

Dinner:  I mad a typical green salad with Bragg’s Vinaigrette.  We had leftover Steamed Rice Bowl and fried eggs with sourdough bread.  I had a bottle of kombucha with mine.  After dinner I was still hungry, so I made some popcorn.

Blessings,

Janis

Imperfectly Raw Day 9 8/28/21

 Imperfectly Raw Day 9 8/27/21

Ready to go to work.

Started the day with 28 oz of water and coffee.

My cute little mug from Urban Outfitters in Plano, Texas.

First Meal:  Lemon Ginger Blast which included the Qunol Liquid Turmeric.  According to the label the liquid turmeric supports a healthy inflammation response.

I started some broccoli microgreens on a grow pad.  I like to use the black plastic meal prep storage containers rather than the large microgreen trays I have.  There are just two of us, so I don’t need that many microgreens at once.

Broccoli seeds.  I can use these for micro greens and for sprouts.

These will be broccoli micro greens in about 10 days.  I will use them in my smoothies or salads.

I worked at the boutique today, so lunch and snack were on the go.

Lunch:  Green Smoothie made with bananas, kiwi, sunflower microgreens, flax seed, coconut water, spinach, frozen wild blueberries, and Hot Springs water.

Smoothie ready to blend.

I put seven bananas in the freezer today, because they were too ripe to last much longer sitting out at room temperature.  I just peeled them, broke them into three or four pieces and put them in a plastic container to freeze.  I can use them frozen in my smoothies.  No need to waste them.

Snack today was a beautiful Honeycrisp apple, celery, and a couple of goodie balls.

Today’s snack was apple, celery, and two goodie balls (not pictured).

When I got home from work the neighbors were sitting on the lower deck with Travis and Lucy so we got to have a nice visit before dinner.  We are planning on doing something together on Monday, Labor Day.  Both of them are lab scientists at two different hospitals in Little Rock.  They are concerned about the virus and what they are seeing in their hospitals.

Dinner salad was my typical spring mix, slaw, grated carrots, purple onion, cherry tomatoes, and avocado.  I served it with the homemade Bragg’s Vinaigrette made with apple cider vinegar and olive oil.

The cooked dish tonight was a steamed rice bowl with fried eggs.  I did not eat the fried eggs tonight, but Travis and Lucy liked them.  The steamed rice bowl was good, though.

Here is the easy recipe for the steamed rice bowl .

Cook 1 cup of rice in 2-2-½ cups water per package directions. Go ahead and add the salt to the rice.  Before rice is completely done, add 1 cup of frozen green peas and most of a 12 oz package of broccoli florets and 1 tsp of dried parsley.  Cover and finish cooking rice and veggies together.  Add a little more water if you need to.  Season with salt and pepper.

Today, I made an appointment with a young doctor here in Hot Springs.  I last went to him back in 2018. We got into a bit of a confrontation regarding vaccination so I switched doctors.  I know from experience that people in the wellness community can be quite dogmatic with simple solutions for complex issues.  I was right there with them, but now, after paying attention to my own results and the results of people around me, and after learning to trust the experts, especially those that are close at hand, I have changed my views on many things, so I am looking forward to meeting with him next week for my wellness checkup.

I had leg cramps during the night so I took a magnesium capsule and also drank some Calm magnesium supplement.  It seemed to help.  Also, I am told that the magnesium may help with my longtime facial twitch/spasm around my right eye.

Blessings,

Janis

Imperfectly Raw Day 8 8/26/21

Today was a travel day.  We left Dallas about 5:00 a.m. and arrived in Hot Springs a little after 10:00 a.m. in time for Molly to open JoAnna A Boutique on time.  Travis picked me up at the store.

Morning coffee came from Buc-ee’s near Dallas.  I wasn’t hungry this morning, so the coffee was all I needed.  I had a goodie ball and some grapes when I got home.

I had a Walmart grocery pickup at 5pm, so tomorrow we should be able to get back in the groove.

For dinner I made a salad, baked potatoes, and pesto garbanzo beans.  I baked the potatoes in the microwave in a potato pocket.

Recipe for the pesto garbanzo beans:

1 Tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp pine nuts, 2 tsp dried basil, 1 can garbanzo beans rinsed and drained, 5 oz bag spinach.

Add olive oil to a skillet over medium heat.  Add garlic and pine nuts.  Cook 1-2 minutes.  Add basil, beans, and spinach.  Cook until spinach is wilted and beans are hot, 2-3 minutes.

Serve over baked potatoes.  Season with salt and pepper.  Garnish with Parmesan if desired.

After dinner tea was Camomile with Lavender.

I finished the Trevor Noah book today, Born A Crime and started on Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman.

Blessings,

Janis

Imperfectly Raw Day 7 August 25, 2021

Ashlyn, Shane, Molly and me at the Dallas Market

Imperfectly Raw Day 7 8/25/21
Today was market day.  The diet today was nothing to brag about.  We had breakfast at the hotel.  I had a godie ball in the room that I brought from home, and I had a biscuit, potatoes, scrambled eggs, orange juice, and coffee from the hotel breakfast buffet.

The market is huge...and Molly and Ashlyn shopped al day for items for the boutiques.  They do a fantastic job putting together collections for their stores.  It was interesting watching them make their selections and place their orders.

We took a Starbucks break at one point, and I had a plain coffee and a Chia & Choco Rawmygod bar I brought from home.  The others had yummy looking pumpkin lattes.

We had dinner in the Dallas World Trade Center where I had the delicious summer salad.  The fruit on this salad was fresh and good.  Ashlyn had this salad yesterday, so it came with a good recommendation.  I also had a protein bar I picked up somewhere along the way.

Summer Salad

We had big plans to go somewhere for dinner, but after the market no one felt like going anywhere so we dined at the hotel restaurant.  I had the side salad, an order of fries, and a Moscato.

We are planning on heading home bright and early tomorrow.

Imperfectly Raw Day 6 August 24, 2021

Molly and me

8/24/21. Day 6

Breakfast today was at the hotel with Molly, Ashlyn and Shane.  They had an omelet bar, but I opted for the homemade biscuits with butter and jelly, a banana, orange juice and coffee.  Today my food was vegetarian, which was the best choice that appealed to me.

Shane and Ashlyn

Breakfast at the hotel

We went shopping at Legacy West and the Shops at Legacy.  We had coffee at a cute place called Main Street Bakery.  Sadly, they did not have the macaroons we were hoping, so Ashlyn settled for a danish, and Shane got a key lime tart.

We checked out downtown Plano, also, before heading to the Dallas World Trade Center to go to the market.   This is my first time to go to market, and it is an amazing event.

We had a late lunch at the World Trade Center.  I had the Italian Bowl with brown rice, toasted mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, spinach and Parmesan, served with balsamic dressing.

Italian Bowl

We were tired when we got to our hotel so we decided to eat dinner at the hotel restaurant.  I had three pieces of the Veggie Pizza and iced tea.  The veggie pizza had mushrooms, onions, olives and spinach.

Everyone is chilling in the room tonight getting ready for a full day at market tomorrow.
